Today we had a visit from the firemen at the local firestation. They came to speak to all the juniors about firework safety. The children were reminded about the ‘Firework Code’  and were told about what might happen if they didn’t follow the code.

The ‘Firework Code’

Keep fireworks in a sealed box or tin

 Use them one at a time, replacing the lid immediately

 NEVER put fireworks in your pocket

 Read the instructions carefully, using a torch or hand lamp NEVER use a naked flame

 Light fireworks at arms length using a taper or a firework lighter

 Stand well back and NEVER return to a firework after it has been lit, it could explode in your face

 Ensure that all chidren with fireworks are well supervised

 NEVER throw fireworks

 Keep all pets and animals indoors

 Take care of sparklers, wear gloves to hold them and dispose of sparklers in a bucket of water as soon as they are finished

Today we went to Crucial Crew. We learnt alot about safety and one of the things was the recovery position.  We also learnt about safety on the railway e.g. stay behind the yellow line at all times.  Another thing we learnt was about fire safety e.g. never try to put the fire out yourself as if it has oils or fat in it could explode and severely hurt you.  All of the groups were told not to litter and never leave doggy doo-doo anywhere without picking it up (with a bag! vital item!)

It was another sad day today when we had a number of goodbyes to say.  It was the last day for year six and they started of the day by enjoying a breakfast together.  They spent the rest of the day getting their T shirts and autograph books signed.  We also said a sad farewell to their teacher, Mrs Megram, who has worked at The Deans for the past four years.  Also leaving today was Mrs Jones who is leaving to train to be a teacher and Miss Doverston who is taking up a teaching appointment in London. Last but not least, we said a final goodbye to Mrs Hartley who has been the headteacher at The Deans since it opened in 1994.  We wish everyone who is leaving The Deans at this time our best wishes for the future.

This afternoon we had planned to have a picnic on the field as part of Mrs Hartley’s retirement celebrations. Unfortunately, due to heavy rain the picnic had to be held in the school hall.  Despite the crampt conditions the children had a great time eating, dancing and watching videos.

Today it was the Year 6 leavers assembly.  We all enjoyed watching a mix of dance, drama, comedy and music.  At the end of the assembly all the children were given a special autograph book.  Which part of the assembly did you enjoy the most?
