Let’s begin at the beginning, a very good place to start!

It’s the end of the summer holidays.

I’m excited! (I usually am…)

I’m excited about a great new adventure. I’m excited about starting something new. I’m excited about meeting new people and making new friends.

I’m also feeling nervous and a little scared.  I’m sure that lots of children and parents are feeling exactly the same!

The new school year normally feels a bit like this, but this one is different – special in lots of ways.

Next Tuesday I’ll be standing at the school gate in the morning saying “Hello” to hundreds of people who I don’t know and who don’t know me!   I’ll be giving my first assembly for the whole school and trying to remember everybody’s names!

I’m going to need lots of help.

I’m going to need lots of help to continue building the amazing school and community started by Mrs Hartley and continued by Mrs Frayne. The school is held in such high regard due to their leadership, enthusiasm and relationships.  I’m under no illusions of the expectations of me as a new Head Teacher coming into such a well established school, but every ending is a chance to reflect, reassess and move forward once more.

This is where I will need help.  Over the coming weeks and months I want to ask everybody in the school community some simple questions.  Simple questions, but important ones.

  • What do we mean by a ‘Quality Education’?
  • What makes our school so special?
  • How can we make our school even better?

If you can all help me answer these questions and build on the outcomes then we won’t go far wrong!  Start thinking about it, because there’s a lot to think about.

But first things first, next Tuesday.  I’ve just realised that most of the parents don’t even know what I look like, so here I am.

Obviously I’ll be wearing a suit on Tuesday!   Have a great last week of your holiday.

  1. Good luck, it is an amazing school. My boys were there on the day it opened and were followed by a further brother and finally a sister. Although they have all now finished primary school they all have great memories of The Deans. Have fun on your new adventure.
