Today Eureka! came to the school and delivered a Science show to children in the Nursery and Reception classes, Years 1 and 2. It was called Splash! and was all about water.
We learnt about the water cycle, sang songs, played a game show and experimented with liquids, including giant bubbles!!!
Year 2 have been busy in the garden. We have planted a variety of vegetable seeds. We cannot wait until our carrots, potatoes, tomatoes and beetroot are ready for eating!!!
On Thursday Mr Cross from Manchester University came into school to deliver a lesson all about pushes and pulls for Year 1 and Year 2. We had lots of fun with air rockets and a game of tug of war! Thank you Mr Cross!
Year Two travelled to Eureka! Science Museum in Halifax for their school trip. We spent a lot of time in the Global Garden area, looking at different habitats and environmental issues. We even built an igloo! We then spent time in the Me and My Body Gallery, and the Sound Space Gallery. We all had lots of fun!
What was your favourite part Year Two? What did you learn?
Year 2 have been learning lots about animals and we have discussed how some animals need our help. We have adopted a Polar Bear and he is being made to feel very welcome! After a class vote, we decided that he should be called Polo.
In Year 2 we have been learning about different groups of animals.
Which group would Polo the Polar Bear belong to? How do we know? What do you know about the other groups of animals?
Year 2 have been learning all about the life cycle of a frog. we have been looking after tadpoles in our classroom and observing the changes. What do you know about frogs?
To end our exciting week each class had a fabulous ‘Kitchen Sink’ show from MAGNA, showing some interesting and baffling Science experiments that can be done with everyday kitchen items
MMU brought a variety of activities for our Early Years and Key Stage 1 children to try, including some wonderful, blue, gooey mixture, and a digital microscope.
This afternoon a Lecturer from Manchester University came to tell us all about the Earth in Space. He told us all about the planets and how to remember which order they came in. He also demonstrated how they orbit around the sun.
Today Year 2 went ot Swinton Library to meet the children’s author Debi Gliori. She told us about her books ‘Witch baby and me’ & ‘Witch baby and me at school. She drew some of the illustrations from her books. We all had a great time talking to her.
Some of the children in Year 2 have been having multi-skills lessons. During the lessons they have learnt lots of P.E. skills and had great fun doing so.
Year 1 and 2 had lots of rhyming fun during their Christmas production. Santa solved lots of problems for the charactors from some of our favourite nursery rhymes and there was lots of singing and dancing on the way. To see the video click here: Video
With the help from MAPAS the infant children sang and performed songs from all around the world. Many of the children were invited to play instruments and some of the children dressed in traditional costumes.
Year 2 have been extremely busy, designing, making and evaluating a moving vehicle. The children worked together in small teams and the photos above show them hard at work.
Year One and Two worked collaboratively to produce some fantastic artwork. One group used Gaudi’s style to create some animal mosaics. The other group recreated the Festival of flowers using tissue paper.
